![]() Addon domains are usually subdirectories of this folder, and anything placed in this directory is publicly accessible from any web browser by default. This will be the root for the main (or only) domain on the hosting account. public_html – The most widely used directory, public_html, is the storage for the website files themselves.public_ftp – While you have to enable it specifically under FTP accounts, public_ftp would be where anonymously uploaded files are uploaded.Below is where all your mail is stored for the account, with subdirectories for each domain, add-on domain, and each email account with further subdirectories for sent/drafts/etc.Logs – The logs directory contains Apache access and error logs for the account, with older ones zipped up in.directory which can hold configuration files (and maybe updated by cPanel as you change settings) and is subdivided by domains in the account. Let's take a look at what shows up when you first log in using cPanel's Built-in File Manager. You also get to select where the compressed file should be saved.A fresh new cPanel hosting account will include quite a few files and directories by default.Now select whan file format to compress to.Select the files/folder you wish to compress.Click Extract files to start the extraction.By default the files will be extracted to the same folder where your compressed file resides in. Now you get the possibility to select to which folder to extract the file to.Click on Change Permissions when you are done.Default for files are 644 and 755 for folders. Select the permissions that you want to set for the file or folder.Right click on the file or folder you wish to edit permissions for and then click on Change Permissions.The File Manager should now reload after which you should be able to see all files and folders that starts with a period.Select the option Show Hidden Files (dotfiles).To be able to see hidden files in the File Manager you need to click on Settings in the top right corner.Please note that this button only is clickable if you’ve already clicked View Trash. To permanently delete all files and folders in Trash, click the Empty Trash button.To browse the trashed files, click View Trash in the top menu. When you delete files from the File Manager, they end up in Trash by default (unless you tick the checkbox indicating that Trash should be skipped).You also get to select if the items should be moved to trash or deleted permanently. In the popup that appears you get to confirm that the file/folder should be deleted.Then click the Delete button in the top menu. To delete a file or a folder, start by clicking on it to select it.If you don’t wish to save anything, you can click Close. When you’re done editing, don’t forget to click Save changes in the top right.Don’t change it if you haven’t set any other encoding manually earlier. If you used a specific character encoding when creating the file (or when you edited it earlier), change from UTF-8 to the correct one. In the popup that appears, click the Edit buttom by the bottom right.Select the file you want to edit, and click the Edit button.Select the file you want to view, and click the View button.Īvoid using the View feature on empty files.
